The Juggler of Midlothian (Midlothian Marriot Courtyard, Desk Clerk Leto)

An enjoyable stay while in exile from Hurricane Laura. All the staff at the Midlothian Marriott Courtyard are very friendly and helpful. I was up at dawn for that first cup of coffee and met Leto, one of the many nice folks who work in this hotel.

Way to go Leto. Hope all is well with you and yours Lawrence. I'm not getting much news on the hurricane.

Thanks!

Returned home yesterday. Very happy that the house is intact, and that no one stole the generator or anything else. Alas that both my available window units failed (after only 15 years), so it's fans and sweat in the heat and damp (Think of the Mekong Delta). We have all sorts of little battery lanterns and good flash lights, and rotate the power cords from refrigerator to coffee pot to microwave and back again. Our power co-op is very good but also somewhat lacking in PR - that a power utility does not have a useful internet presence or one of those nice little maps showing what areas have power and which do not is surprising.

But, hey, we're all alive and well.

The second-guessers on a.m. radio are today faulting the NWS and "the media" for exaggerating the hurricane's menace, but the only suprise is (forgive the spelling, lapgop is a lapto for real, connectef to a generator, and my glasses are goffed0 that there was less harm in the storm's periphery; in Jefferson and Orange Counties in Texas and in Lake Charles, Louisiana it was a hot mess, and the number of deaths are not yet known. Credit to the NWS and the local stations (the national news aren't much interested in anything other than California and New York) for getting it exactly right.

Ans now back to cleanup!
