Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

 The Infant Samuel lay in the Sanctuary

And in the night-watch heard the voice of God
He rose and responded.

                                     What do we hear?

The mechanical hiss of central air
The vaporous clangings of the plumbing
A car passing by on some late errand
A yawn, a sigh, a turn, a pillow foofed
The silent accusations of the night
