Neo-Platonism
or
The Alligator
of the Cave
If
the shadow behind the shade shifts shapes,
Souls
shall shudder at the shimmering show
As
shafts of sunlight shine reality
Upon
the shabby, shop-soiled shibboleths
That
long have formed seductive, sheeny shells,
Those
shapeless shields that shutter shamefully
Humanity’s
shallow, sheering shoreline
And
shatter the shaken shards of constructs sham
To
the chagrin of the shaken – but only
If
the shadow behind the shade shifts shapes.
