Romance of the Barren Plinth

They’ve gone and pulled a general down
And all the birds that used to rest
Upon his visage fallen to ground
Will have to seek another nest

Four plinths are placed in Trafalgar Square
Albion’s lions repose on three
The fourth is open to the English air
(They probably aren’t saving it for me)

But you might rest on a plinth one day
(Of course you won’t be allowed to stay)
