Lawrence Hall, HSG
I Demanded to be Heard
When I was young I demanded
to be heard
And I was not heard, which
turned out for the best
Because I had almost nothing
to say
And that almost-nothing was
sodden with cliché
The former address, "reactionary drivel," was a P. G. Wodehouse gag that few ever understood to be a mildly self-deprecating joke. Drivel, perhaps, but not reactionary. Neither the Red Caps nor the Reds ever got it.
